Now that summer is finally here, our team at Atoll Boards wanted to check in and make sure that everyone is fully prepared for our favorite time of the year! While there are many, many pieces of advice that we want to share with our community in the upcoming months, we needed to pick a place to begin. More specifically, we needed to choose our first summer-related blog of 2023. And, after much consideration, we believe we’ve finally found it. Before you even leave the house, you need to know what to wear while stand-up paddle boarding in summer. Like we said, it’s simply a perfect place to begin. So, without further ado, keep on reading to learn all about some of our favorite outfits for the warmest months of the year.

Things You Need to Wear for Every SUP Adventure
Before we get into the seasonal attire, let’s review the things you need to wear for every SUP adventure. First and foremost, you need to wear a leash. With it, you’ll always stay attached to your board, even if you fall off unexpectedly. Needless to say, this can make a world of difference, especially in terms of getting back on your board. Secondly, we highly recommend wearing a personal flotation device (PFD). With it, you’ll stay afloat no matter how calm or rocky the waters may be. Plus, if you’re wearing both a PFD as well as a leash, it will be exponentially easier to stay afloat, get back on your board, and resume your paddle as soon as possible. Suffice it to say, with just these two accessories, your SUP adventures will be much easier, simpler, and—most importantly—safer. Last but not least, don’t forget waterproof sunscreen, especially in summer!

Our Favorite Outfits for SUP-ing in Summer
Now, let’s get down to business. For men, our favorite outfits for SUP-ing in summer include boardshorts with an optional T-shirt or rash guard, a sun hat, sunglasses, and maybe a light flannel or sweatshirt, just in case. For the ladies, we recommend all of the same, minus one substitution. Instead of the boardshorts, women typically prefer a bathing suit, such a bikini or one-piece garment. At the end of the day, the details come down to personal preference. In short, as long as you dress for the weather, take all the proper safety precautions, and double-check everything before you head out, you should be good to go.
