The world of stand-up paddle boarding (SUP-ing) is synonymous with health. Every time we take our signature Atoll Boards out on the water, we burn calories, we feel good, and we want that feeling to stick around for as long as possible. Of course, one of the best ways to maintain that good, healthy feeling is by having a clean and nutritious diet. After all, the more good we put into our bodies, the more good we can get out of our bodies. In fact, last month, our SUP experts shared an in-depth guide of what to eat for breakfast before you go paddle boarding. This month, we’d like to discuss the other side of the conversation – what to eat after you go paddle boarding. As always, our team at Atoll Boards has everything you need to know, so keep on reading below!

Your Body Needs Nutrients

As wonderful as it may be, an SUP workout can be truly exhausting, draining, etc. That said, don’t be surprised if your body feels like it needs to be refueled by the end of it. As a matter of fact, that is exactly what your core will need – fuel. Or, more specifically, in order to get a full refueling, your body needs nutrients; and lots of them. Therefore, when selecting a post-workout snack, be sure to make it as fresh and nutritious as possible. Of course, our team at Atoll Boards has an extensive list of recommendations.

Healthy Snacks for After an SUP Workout

Now, let’s talk about some of our favorite healthy snacks for after an SUP workout. First, we love a fresh fruit smoothie (preferably with some greens, whey protein, and other added goodies like chia seeds, ginger, turmeric, etc). Or, if smoothies aren’t your thing, another simple way to get your fruit and calcium quotas is good, old-fashioned greek yogurt and berries. Not a fan of yogurt? No problem. Try fruit and nut butter, such as apple or banana slices with peanut butter, or maybe even almond butter. Either way, it’s a sweet, simple, and delicious combination.

Smoothies in a Row with Orange-and-White-Striped Straws

Looking for something with a little more protein? How about some canned tuna—or any other type of canned fish—matched with some whole grain crackers? Of course, fish isn’t for everyone. If you’re more of a meat eater, then we recommend turkey with cheese and apple slices. Or, if you’re looking for another high-protein vegetarian option, consider sourdough or whole grain toast with hard-boiled eggs. Need a vegan version? Try whole grain toast with nut or seed butter paired with naturally sweetened preserves. Or, if you want something a little less sweet, another vegan option is hummus with seed crackers and raw veggies. Last but not least, don’t forget about ‘Ol’ Reliable’ – a protein bar. For best results, we recommend one with four or less grams of added sugars, plus at least 10 grams of protein.

Consult with Your Doctor

Naturally, everyone’s dietary needs are unique, so please note that these are simply some of our favorite forms of fuel, not necessarily the best options for you, your body, etc. If you have any questions about these foods, whether or not they’re a good fit for you, or any other health-related topics, please consult with your doctor, especially before making any changes to your diet, lifestyle, etc. At the end of the day, the best advice you can get for your own personal health and wellness will always come from a medical professional, especially one who knows you and your medical history. In short, always consult with your doctor first.
