SUP season is finally on the horizon, and, just like you, our entire team at Atoll Boards is beyond excited! However, as eager as we are to get out on the water, we need to make sure that all members of the SUP community know how to prepare for stand-up paddle boarding season. As always, we have everything you need to know, so keep on reading below!

Inspect Your Board for Any Signs of Damage

First things first, you’ll want to inspect your board for any signs of damage. If you’re using an inflatable stand-up paddle board (iSUP), begin by inflating it and checking for any obvious—or, perhaps even more importantly, not so obvious—leaks, problems, etc. For a hard board, be sure to closely examine and inspect it for any cracks, dings, holes, or other blemishes. If you don’t find anything, count your blessings and move onto the next step. If you do find something, please take the time to fix it. Trust us, it is always better to fix an issue sooner rather than later, especially if there’s any chance you might need to fix it in the middle of a paddle someday.

Make Sure the Fin and Air Pressure are Good to Go

Additionally, epoxy board users will want to ensure that their fins and pressure vents are ready for action. More specifically, they will want to confirm this before their first paddle, as any fin-related issues could spell serious problems for any type of paddling. As we alluded to previously, iSUP owners will want to make sure their boards are impeccably airtight, holding their pressure, and showing absolutely no signs of leakage or other potential problems. Again, taking the time to confirm these things could easily make a world of difference in the long run.

Replace the Things That Can’t Be Fixed

Furthermore, if you encounter any problems beyond repair, then be sure to replace the things that can’t be fixed – and, as always, the sooner the better. Needless to say, if you want the best possible paddle, then you need the best possible board, too. Whatever types of SUP activities you might enjoy—racing, surfing, fishing, touring, yoga, meditation, or anything else—we can guarantee it will be a better experience if your board is at 100%. In short, don’t go paddling on a board that isn’t ready; it just isn’t worth it.

Thoroughly Clean and Wash Your Board

Last but not least, be sure to thoroughly clean and wash your board. If there’s any lingering dust, dirt, or other contaminants, this will knock them off. Better yet, this will eliminate the possibility of residue-related damage to your board. All you need is some warm water, mild soap, and a little bit of elbow grease to make your board as beautiful as it was on the fateful day when you first brought it home. Then, when your board is finally back to 100%, you’ll be more than ready to get back out on the water, have some fun, and create a whole new SUP season full of fantastic memories. Happy paddling, everyone!
