As much as we love paddle boarding, it’s also important to be prepared before heading out on the water. If you don’t take the time to pack a bag, check your list, and make sure you have everything you need, then chances are you’ll probably regret it at some point during your adventure. For example, what happens if you’re suddenly very hungry and nowhere near shore? Well, it’s pretty simple. Either you reach down into your bag and grab the snacks you brought along, or you turn around and head back to the shoreline. While there’s nothing wrong with doing the latter, that’s not always the preferred option. Sometimes you just want to stay out on the water for as long as possible; or maybe you simply get hungry faster than others. Whatever your circumstances may be, we encourage everyone to pack some snacks, just in case. That way, you only need to backtrack when you want to! So, what are some of the best snacks to bring for stand-up paddle boarding (SUP-ing)?
Quick, Easy, and Healthy Snacks for SUP-ing
While you can certainly grab convenient treats like protein shakes, energy bars, etc, our team at Atoll Boards is especially fond of fruits and vegetables. For instance, some of our favorite quick, easy, and healthy snacks for SUP-ing include hummus and any vegetables that can work for scooping (carrots, celery, etc), whole wheat crackers with meat and cheese, pita chips with guacamole, jerky, nuts, and trail mix. Or, if you want to keep things nice and simple, pack a healthy sandwich! As long as your snack of choice provides plenty of protein, some healthy carbs, and a little bit of natural sugar, the rest of your SUP adventure should be wonderfully filled with natural, healthy fuel. In other words, treat your body right and it will return the favor.

How to Pack Your Snacks on an SUP
As one would imagine, there are some important details in regards to properly packing your snacks for an SUP outing. First and foremost, please be sure to use a cooler, ice packs, and any other appropriate supplies as needed. If you’re bringing any perishable items such as meat, cheese, or hummus, it’s imperative that you keep it cool before consumption. Trust us, you don’t want to get sick out there, especially if you’re a long way away from shore.
Another reason to use a cooler or a similar container is wildlife. If you’re going to be anywhere near seagulls or similar creatures, you’ll want to protect your food from them, as many animals aren’t afraid to pursue the things they want in life – including your snacks! For simplicity’s sake, we recommend a smaller cooler, if possible, as it will definitely be easier to transport, carry around, and possibly even take with you on your SUP, depending on the size, weight, etc.
