Just like any other type of workout, when you go stand-up paddle boarding, you’ll want to have a good balance of nutrition in your system. Of course, the specifics of this vary from one person to another, so please be sure to consult with your doctor before making any significant changes to your diet, exercise patterns, etc. That said, however, we do have a few general guidelines that benefit most members of the stand-up paddle board (SUP) community. Naturally, there is no shortage of information on nutrition, exercise, etc, so for the purpose of this particular blog, we’ll be focusing on what we recommend in terms of breakfast. In short, if you’re looking for some ideas on what to eat for breakfast before you go paddle boarding, keep on reading to learn more about our top recommendations!
Breakfast Before a Long or High-Intensity Workout
If your upcoming paddle will be lengthy, high-intensity, or both, please plan accordingly. Of course, this includes what you eat. For a healthy breakfast before a long or high-intensity workout, we recommend something along the lines of eggs, avocado, and a healthy bread or toast, especially one that is low in carbs and high in protein. Again, it doesn’t need to look exactly like this, but the mix of nutrients—high-protein, low-carbs, some fiber, etc—will likely serve you well throughout your workout.
Breakfast Before a Low-Intensity or Short Workout
On the other hand, if you’re planning on a smaller paddle, then you don’t necessarily need as many calories as the aforementioned model. Instead, you may be better off with a simple sampling of yogurt and berries, or any other comparable small meal. However, if you burned a lot of calories the day before, especially in the form of a long or high-intensity workout, then don’t be surprised if you find yourself craving a bit more carbs. For this, we recommend oatmeal with fruit, nuts, and other healthy goodies that leave you feeling revitalized.

Consult with Your Doctor Before Making Any Changes
Finally, before you make any significant changes to your diet, exercise patterns, etc, please be sure to consult with your doctor. All of these topics are just as subjective as they are important. In other words, the best advice you can get for your own personal health and wellness will always come from a medical professional, especially one who knows you and your medical history.
