Over the course of the past few years, more and more people have been getting into mindfulness, meditation, and other self-care practices. Of course, you don’t need to download an app or make any drastic changes in order to incorporate these new techniques into your everyday life. Rather, some small changes can go a very long way towards making you a happier and healthier paddler, let alone a better overall person. So, for example, what are some good self-care practices for after a paddle boarding session?
Take the Time to Properly Clean Off Your Board
This may seem like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised by how many people rush the process and don’t take the time to properly clean off their board. If you’re not sure how to do so, take a moment to check out our blog, ‘How to Wash and Store Your iSUP for the Winter.’ In it, we give a thorough breakdown of how to properly clean your board. Trust us, you’ll have extra peace of mind knowing that your stand-up paddle board is in good shape.
Be Sure to Stretch Before and After Your Workout
We all know the benefits and importance of stretching before a workout, but don’t forget to stretch after one, too. In fact, some people say it’s just as important, if not even more important! Just as your body will thank you for a day out on the water, so, too, will it thank you for the lack of pain, tightness, soreness, etc.
Take a Nice, Long Shower
On a similar note, don’t underestimate the power of a good shower. Whether you take a nice, long one or even just a little rinse-off, your body and mind will feel better by the end of it. As for the specifics, different temperatures provide different benefits. While a hot shower can improve your sleep, cardiovascular health, and stiff joint pains, a cold shower offers an entirely separate list of benefits. Among them, one will find reduced inflammation, pain relief, improved circulation, lower stress levels, and reduced muscle soreness and fatigue.

Have a Healthy Meal
Again, this one is a little bit obvious, but for good reason! When you finish any workout, paddling an Atoll Board or anything else, have a healthy meal. When you load up your body with lots of protein, vitamins, and minerals, it will recover faster, feel better, etc. Nutrition exists for a reason, after all.
Enjoy Some Peace and Quiet
While it can certainly be tempting to keep going and going in our fast-paced society, please be sure to take the time you need, especially after an intense workout. Whether you want to read a book, meditate, or simply enjoy some peace and quiet, don’t forget to give yourself a break when you need it.
