One popular launch location is the Community Boating Inc. dock, located at 20 Overlook Road, Boston, MA. It’s popular due to its ease of access to the water.
Once you’re on the water, we recommend heading to the left towards the Charles River Esplanade. This is a sprawling 64-acre park that has the best view of Boston. In addition, you’re likely to see a few sailboats making their way along the river as well. According to them, Nahanton Park is one of the longest uninterrupted stretches of flatwater on the Charles River, and paddlers can enjoy calm paddling from upstream of Dedham Ave in Needham to Silk Mill Dam at Newton Upper Falls. Almost all the shoreline is forest or marsh, and much of it is protected parkland.
Once on the water, paddlers can expect to see beautiful scenery and wildlife while there. Most of the riverbank along the Nahanton Park section is forested, perfect for kayaking and canoeing. Across from Cutler Park is Boston’s Millennium Park. At this location, there is a canoe launch where you can access walking paths, playing fields, and a picnic area.
