Delaware River
Another famous river makes it onto our list. How famous is it? Well, it’s only the river that Geroge Washington crossed to the defeatt he British way backon December 25, 1776. Yeah, that famous.
And just like our previous spot, the Delaare does offer a challenge if you don’t hop in at the right spot. There is a current and plenty of boat traffic so be aware of your surroundings when on the water.
The best launch location is at Delaware River Kayak & Canoe Rentals, 22 N Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19106. They may charge a luanching fee, but it’s a great spot, and you’ll be able to connect with a paddling professional that knows the area well and can give you expert advice on what to expect.
Lake Nockamixon
Our next stop takes us into Bucks County with Lake Nockamixon. Not only can you Stand Up Paddle Board here, but it’s also a great spot for fishing (or SUP fishing), and even sailing. The lake itself is relatively calm, peaceful, and offers a great place for beginners to experience their first SUP adventure in a safe area. Plus, you can hike the trails around the lake, spend the night camping, or just enjoy an afternoon picnic.
It has it all! The best launch location is at Tohickon Valley Park, 169 Tohickon Valley Rd, Pipersville, PA 18947. There you’ll be able to find easy access to the water for your paddling pleasure.
Raystown Lake
Our last stop is. apopular spot in Huntingdon County for outdoor recreation, including paddle boarding. There are spots of this lake where the water is crystal clear. A big suprise in Pennsylvania. There’s fine dining, hiking to the top of the surrounding mountains, even places to sleep for the night. If you decide to head here, you won’t be disappointed.
